Sacc’s Starts and Sits Week 3, Featuring Grain Rubinoff, Ketchup & Hot Sauce

Week 2 is in the books. Last week I did pretty well in the column. I ended up getting 5 wrong, which was an improvement from week 1.

This was a bad week to be a quarterback. Some big names got hurt and replaced, lets dive in:

  • Ben Roethisberger landed on the IR with an elbow injury
  • Drew Brees got sustained a thumb injury and is expected to miss 6 weeks
  • Cam Newton is in a boot with a foot injury, missed practiced on Thursday and looks like he’s not playing. Start up Kyle Allen
  • Sam Darnold is out again this week with mono (Grow up)
  • Danny ‘Dimes’ Jones is replacing Eli Manning

It’s time to move on to week 3, a crucial week for everyone involved. If you’re 0-2, you need a win to stay in it. For the people who follow this know that I started taking shots for the ones I get wrong. This Tuesday I’ll be on the Mike Pedroli Show once again taking them. It’s looking like I’m going to have to chase Grain Rubinoff with ketchup and hot sauce… not happy about it. But its what the people want. Let’s just hope I do well. Here it is:

Sacc’s QB Starts:

Jameis Winston vs NYG: Winston is always a tough play. You never feel great about playing him, but this match up is butter. Dak Prescott and Josh Allen put up points against the Giants the past 2 weeks. I expect Mike Evans to bounce back in a big way and Chris Godwin to continue to ball. He’s only $5,400 on DraftKings.

Josh Allen vs CIN: The second straight week I put Allen as a start. He killed it last week, putting up 22 fantasy points. He’s facing a Bengals team that allowed pretty Jimmy G to throw for almost 300 yards and 3 scores on 25 pass attempts. Expect another nice game.

I also like: Dak Prescott vs MIA, Kyler Murray vs CAR

Sacc’s QB Sits:

Carson Wentz vs DET: Wentz had a rough game last week when he lost his top targets. Alshon Jeffery, Desean Jackson and Dallas Goaedert are trending on not playing this week, which means Wentz will be throwing the ball to Ertz, Agholor and Arcega-Whiteside… yikes. I expect them to run the ball a lot this week.

Teddy Bridgewater @ SEA: Bridgewater is stepping in for Brees who got hurt against the Rams. While this match up seems appealing since Seahawks have struggled against the pass in recent weeks, I still don’t like him. Reports are also saying Taysom Hill will be getting snaps under center. I wouldn’t even start Bridgewater in two QB leagues.

I also don’t like: Mitch Trubisky @ WAS, Jared Goff @ CLE

Sacc’s RB Starts:

Sony Michel vs NE: I had Michel in my starts last week and he barely made the projections. The Jets have allowed a rushing touchdown both weeks so far. They also are down to their 3rd string QB and expect to get blown out with the spread currently at -22. Game script once again is in Michel favor. I expect a HUGE game out of him.

Miles Sanders vs DET: We are waiting for the Sanders breakout game and I believe it’s this game. The Eagles are down a couple of weapons, which will lead them to running the ball more. The Lions have struggled against pass catching back. I expect 15 carries and 4 catches from Sanders this week.

I also like: Aaron Jones vs DEN, Frank Gore vs CIN

Sacc’s RB Sits:

LeSean McCoy @ KC: McCoy got hurt last week and practiced today in some capacity. It sounds like he’s still banged up. Damien Williams missed practice for the second straight day, and doesn’t look like he’s going to play on Sunday. Baltimore shut down David Johnson last week. I don’t want to fade anyone in the KC offense but McCoy worries me this week.

James Conner @ SF: This one hurts to put in here. He hasn’t practiced but has claimed he is good to go. San Francisco has been stout against the run, only allowing Mixon 17 yards last week. If you have better options to start this week, I’d roll with them.

I also don’t like: Adrian Peterson vs CHI, James White vs NYJ

Sacc’s WR Starts:

Stefon Diggs vs OAK: I got a question a couple of days ago about Diggs and if he’s a good start. Well here’s my explanation – The Raiders have been terrible against the pass. They let Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman go bananas last week. The week before Courtland Sutton go for 7-120… COURTLAND SUTTON. He’s also priced at $6,000 on DraftKings. This one was easy for me.

Randall Cobb vs MIA: Michael Gallup isn’t playing this week. The Dolphins have been getting burnt badly outside of Xavien Howard. Cobb plays mainly in the slot so he’ll see a lot of Jomal Wiltz and Eric Rowe, especially with Minkah Fitzpatrick gone. I expect the Cowboys to put up numbers against them. Hammer it.

I also like: Kenny Golladay @ PHI, Josh Gordon vs NYJ

Sacc’s WR Sits:

Robby Anderson @ NE: Yet again, Robby makes my sit list. He’s going against a solid Patriots defense, mainly facing Stephon Gilmore. While game script seems like it would fall into his place, I’m still staying far far away. He has Luke Falk throwing him the ball… Lol.

Jarvis Landry vs LAR: Landry has been pretty much non existent the past two weeks. He’s going against stud corner backs who had the Saints in a blender. Once Baker Mayfield and the offense really gets going I’ll be comfortable starting Landry, but right now, I’ll pass.

Sacc’s TE Starts:

Austin Hooper @ IND: Indy has allowed the most yards to TE’s this season. It’s looking like Darius Leonard won’t be playing this week also. Hooper is due for a big week and this is a sweet spot for him. Priced at $3,600 on DraftKings, I really like him.

Eric Ebron vs ATL: Ebron has been struggling this year. He only has 4 catches in 2 games, one being a fluky shovel pass for a touchdown. It’s clear Brissett doesn’t throw the ball a lot, and mainly focuses on T.Y Hilton.

Sacc’s Starts and Sits Week 2

Week 1 was very interesting to say the least. But this isn’t the time to overreact, but to react. Here’s the list of injuries in week 1:

  • Tyreek Hill expected to miss 4-6 weeks
  • Hunter Henry likely to miss 4-6 weeks
  • Sam Darnold has mono, missing week 2, and possible more time
  • Derrius Guice got surgery today, no time table to return as of right now
  • Mike Williams’s knee. There’s concerns he might miss some time
  • Joe Mixon ankle injury doesn’t seem serious, but could possibly miss week 2
  • Le’Veon Bell is getting an MRI on his shoulder, more to come
  • Tevin Coleman is considered week-to-week with an ankle injury
  • Nick Foles is out for the season

One thing I know is that these injuries will continue to pile up, unfortunately we can’t predict that. But we can predict who’s going to have a good week.

For the people who have been paying attention to this blog know that I have put my start/sit picks on the line. In effort to make them better, I decided to challenge myself. For picks I get wrong, I will be taking shots of alcohol of the peoples choice. When I’m wrong on the start em’, this means player didn’t exceed their projected points. When I’m wrong about the sit em’, it means the player did exceed their projected points. Projections are based on ESPN scoring. PPR format. Shots will be taken Tuesday night on The Mike Pedroli Show. Sacc’s QB Starts

Jared Goff vs NO: Coming off an ugly game away verse the Panthers, I expect a Goff bounce back. Last year he threw 22 touchdowns, 3 picks and 342.1 YPG at home. He’s got the weapons around him, that’s for sure. He’s priced at $5,900 on DraftKings. The current total for the game is at 52, the third highest on this slate. I love Goff this week.

Lamar Jackson vs AZ: Jackson killed it last week. He only threw 20 passes, and ended up with 324 yards with 5 TDs. He didn’t even play the full game! Yes, it was against Miami, but he’s going against Arizona this week, another smash spot. They just let Stafford throw for 385 yards and 3 TDs. Not to mention he was in my start em’ last week. I like Jackson at home against a shaky secondary.

Andy Dalton vs SF: Dalton looked GOOD verses Seattle last week. He threw for 418 yards! We won’t be saying that this week, though. The 49ers pass rush is one of the best in the league and Richard Sherman looked great last week. On paper, this matchup looks like great, but I’d stay away if you need a streamer or play in DFS.

Jameis Winston @ CAR: Winston struggled last week. Maybe it was adjusting to Arian’s offense. He has great weapons around him. Unfortunately, James Bradberry will be shadowing Mike Evans, which will take him away. This defense is good. They played well against Goff and crew. Coming off a short week, I don’t think Jameis will be eating any W’s or crab legs.

Sony Michel @ MIA: Sony had a tough week 1, only rushing for 14 yards on 15 carries. Burkhead played well, which concerns me as a Michel owner. But this match up too good. Miami’s defense looks like terrible. The Patriots are favored by 19 points. Game script looks like it plays in his favor. Hammer it.

Matt Breida @ CIN: Cincy held Carson in check last week, holding him to 3.1 yards per carry, BUT did allow him to find the end zone twice. Tevin Coleman got hurt last week and will be sidelined for a bit, so Breida is appealing. I expect him to handle most of the carries in a game where the running game will matter. Mostert will get some work also, but he’s average.

Other players I like: Gio Bernard vs SF (if Mixon doesn’t play), Chris Thompson vs DAL

Aaron Jones vs MIN: Yikes. That’s all I have to say about Jones week 1 performance. Yes, he was going against one of the best defenses in the league. He’s got another tough matchup this week against Minnesota. They held Freeman and Smith in check last week. I still like Jones in season long, he’s just got a tough schedule. Buy-low.

Phillip Lindsay vs CHI: Lindsay pretty much split evenly with Freeman, only tallying 11 rushing attempts, but he did get 4 catches on 6 targets. He’s going against a stout Chicago defense, who didn’t let Jones do anything on the ground. The total points in the game at currently at 40.5, the lowest on the slate.

Sacc’s WR Starts

Chris Godwin @ CAR: While Evans will be on Bradberry island, Godwin will be making some plays. Panther’s haven’t been good against slot receivers, dating back to last year. Cooper Kupp caught 7 balls on 10 targets last week. I expect them to play from behind, allowing Godwin to gobble up targets and possibly finding the end zone. Believe the hype around him.

Tyler Lockett @ PIT: After only catching one ball last week, luckily a TD for fantasy owners, I expect a bounce back for Lockett. Cincy doubled him all day long, which he struggled with. The Steelers have been terrible against slot receivers the past two seasons. They also mainly play man defense. This will allow Lockett to make some plays.

Robby Anderson vs CLE: I told you last week to fade him and it paid off. I’m fading him this week also. He’ll be getting a heavy dose of Denzel Ward, who shut down Corey Davis last week. Davis didn’t catch a ball. By the way, Trevor Siemian is getting start Monday night. I don’t think I need to elaborate. Fade. Fade. Fade.

Emmanuel Sanders vs CHI: Clearly I’m fading all of the Broncos offense. Chicago shut down the high power Packers offense. Sanders had a great week last week, catching a TD. He looks good, especially coming off an Achilles injury. I like him in season long.

Darren Waller vs KC: Waller had 14 fantasy points last week. Not bad against a solid Denver D. In a game where the Raiders will have to keep with KC’s high powered offense. Game script will be in his favor when they go down. He’s only priced $3,300 on DraftKings.

Jimmy Graham vs MIN: Graham had a solid game vs Chicago on Thursday night. He posted 3 catches, 30 yards, 1 TD on 6 targets. He doesn’t have the hops he used to have, though. He’s going against a stingy Vikings D, who locks down TEs. Harrison Smith will be all over him. I’ll pass on him this week.

Thoughts on Start Em’ results: I thought I could have done a lot better than 50% correct. Week 1 is unpredictable, like I stated in the Start Em’, Sit Em’ blog. I definitely see room to improve at every position.

Thoughts on Sit Em’ results: I thought I did well besides the Henry pick. I expected the Browns to be better and game script not to be in Henry’s favor. They went up by a lot and leaned heavily on him. The downfall of doing the blog early is the injuries. I wish I picked someone other than Reed as a Sit Em’ tight end. I got 83% right, which I’m content with. #WeAreOnToWeek2 🏈

Random note: Instead of calling it Start Em’, Sit Em’, it will be renamed Sacc’s Starters and sits. In effect week 2.

Just A Kid In His Dolphin Snowsuit

“I’m such a baby ‘cause the Dolphins make me cry.” 7 year old me would live by those lyrics. Growing up as a Dolphins fan in New England has not been the most enjoyable. I’ve seen a lot of championships… but none from my beloved Dolphins. Don’t feel bad, I’ve put myself through this torture. But let’s get this straight. I wouldn’t change a thing.

It all started when I was 7 years old. My uncle, who grew up watching Dan Marino, loved the Dolphins. He went to a game in Miami and brought me back a white Zach Thomas jersey. I fell in love. The tropical colors, the feisty looking dolphin with the little helmet on his head. My uncle would tell me stories about how good the Dolphins were, emphasizing on how good Marino was. He would talk about games where he would do the unthinkable. Throwing the ball all around the field to the Marks brothers, his quick release, something at the time the league has never seen.

I was sucked in. I started to do my own research, watching highlights on YouTube, looking up stats, and watching the game with him every Sunday afternoon. We would toss the pigskin around before the games and I would pretend I was Chris Chambers. I felt enjoyment watching guys like Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Patrick Surtain, and Jay Fiedler make plays. When Ricky Williams signed with the Dolphins in 2002, he became my favorite player. He brought excitement. The dreads hanging out of the helmet, the game changing plays, his swagger was undeniable. I loved the Dolphins and started to develop the love for football. But I quickly realized that the Dolphins weren’t good. I used to get frustrated, hide in my room, and cry. I was a kid… give me a break!

December 7th, 2003. The date that changed my life. The first football game I’ve ever attended. Unfortunately, it was against the all mighty Patriots. There was at least a foot of snow on the ground and we couldn’t get to route 1, so we parked roughly a mile away from the stadium and walked on the train tracks behind Gillette Stadium to get in. My uncle had to put me on his shoulders because the snow was up to my waist. We finally get into the stadium and it’s already the second quarter. There I am, in snow covered Gillette Stadium, 30 rows up on the visitors 20 yard line, overlooking my favorite team. I’m pumped! I have my teal Dolphins snow suit on, freezing but happy to be there nonetheless. The Dolphins are down 3-0. If the Patriots win, they win the east. I’m there to stop it. No way the Fins lose on the first the game I ever attend. It’s the 4th quarter, Miami is hanging in there and then the unthinkable happens. Teddy Bruschi picks off Jay Fielder and runs it in for a touchdown. I felt like the stuffing in my snowsuit got ripped out. I’m getting pegged with snowballs from all the DOUCHEBAG Patriots fans. An anger rose from my little body that I’ve never experienced in my short life. An anger I’d never forget.

Everyone knows the rest of the story. The Patriots win the game 12-0, becoming the champions of the east. Blah. Blah. Blah. That’s when my hatred for the Patriots came to fruition. It fueled me. It gave me purpose. It made me love the Dolphins even more. I’ll always stand by my Dolphins through the hardships, the doubt, the losing seasons. I’ve see Dolphins at their ugliest times. Trying to find their franchise quarterback since Marino. My favorite player leaving the league to pursue something I didn’t understand. Choosing Dante Culpepper over Drew Brees. Nick “Satan” Saban bailing out after a year. The 1-15 season. Richie Incognito bullying Jonathan Martin. I’ve witnessed it all. I’ve also seen some really amazing things. Greg Camarillo taking it to the house against those dirty Ravens in the forgettable 2007 season. The turnaround season in 2008, lead by the great Tony Sparano and the wildcat offense. (I was at the game when the Dolphins torched the Patriots in New England that season.) The Miami Miracle. While the bad outweighs the good, it still gives me hope in the future.

Speaking of the future, I see a teal lining. As we near the kickoff to the 2019 Dolphins season, it already looks like a season to forget. This organization is clearly building for the future. They didn’t go out and spend money on big free agents. With a total of 13 picks the 2020 draft, including 2 first rounders, the plan is clear. Yes, giving up one of your centerpieces on the offensive line hurts, but it’s clear since Gase left that winning isn’t going to happen right now. Oddly enough, I’m okay with that. Many may call that a losers mentality, but when it comes down to it, I’d rather having the chance to be really good then stay mediocre. There’s the potential, if the right steps are taken, to be great.

The Miami Dolphins have changed my life. They’ve taught me many important life lessons. Build for the future. Set your goals high, even if those goals may take longer than you expected. Believe in yourself, when others don’t. When things aren’t right, it’s okay to start over to try to build something amazing. Take risks. Most importantly, to never give up, even when the odds are stacked against you.

Start em,’ Sit em’ Week 1 & Notes

Finally, the week we have all been waiting for. Week 1. LFG. Drafts are finishing up and it’s now time to focus on the toughest week of the year for fantasy diehards. If your a fantasy nut like me, you’ve been checking your lineup everyday, trying to figure out the optimal lineup for week 1. Before I get into who to start and sit for this upcoming week, I’m going to touch upon some major moves that happened in the past 72 hours.

• Carlos Hyde signed with the Texans. We all saw this one coming. Houston needed another RB after Miller went down. I still LOVE Duke Johnson though. Hyde’s on his 5th team in 3 seasons and is clearly on the downhill of his career. Yes, he’s on a great offense, which is the only reason he’s valuable. Speaking of Houston, they just acquired Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills from Miami. They definitely over paid for them, but for fantasy purposes this was a great move for Watson, D.J. Jr, Hyde, and Hopkins owners. Tunsil is a great addition to a shaky OL. Stills really clouds up the WR core outside of Hopkins. Stills lines up in the slot, which really hurts Keke Coutee’s value. He’s also one of the best home run WRs in the league, along side Will Fuller. This also effects his value. Both Fuller and Keke have had a hard time staying on the field, so Stills is good insurance. This offense is going to be REALLY good.

• LeSean ‘Shady’ McCoy signed with the Chiefs. Ugh. You hate to see it if you’re on the Damien Williams/Darwin Thompson hype train. I was. Andy Reid hinted on a RBBC a couple of weeks ago and it looks like it’s coming to fruition. I still like Williams in PPR formats but this definitely hurts his ceiling. Thompson unfortunately becomes a late round flier. Shady, 31 years old, has shown throughout his career that he is injury prone so it does make Williams and Thompson valuable, especially in Reid’s offense.

Ok, enough of that. Let’s talk week 1.

Start em’ QBs:

Matthew Stafford @ AZ: I’m hammering him into my DraftKings lineups. AZ’s CB depth chart currently has Tramaine Brock, Byron Murphy and Chris Jones as their starters. Pat Peterson is suspended for 6 games. #Yikes. This game could possibly be a shoot out. If your streaming QB’s in season long, I recommend going with the QB going against Arizona.

Jimmy Garoppolo @ TB: Like Stafford, Garoppolo is going against a shaky DB core. Last year, Tampa gave up the 3rd most fantasy points to QBs. The 49ers also have weapons around him, players who can make plays. Yes, he hasn’t looked so hot in the off-season but I’m not too worried about that. The total points line is set at 50, which is the 4th highest in week 1. Look for Jimmy to get back on the fantasy map after this week.

Other guys I like: Drew Brees vs HOU, Jameis Winston @ SF.

Sit em’ QBs:

Aaron Rodgers @ CHI: First off, I’m not telling you sit Rodgers over Garoppolo or Stafford but I don’t believe he’s going to put up Aaron numbers like he usually does. The Bears finished as the top defense last year. GB is playing in Chicago. Yeah, I’m fading him in DFS and don’t have any shares of him on my season long teams.

Ben Roethliserger @ NE: New England’s defense looks like they will be a solid unit this year. Stephon Gilmore might be the leagues best corner. Ben has lost his major weapon in AB in the off-season. Outside of JuJu, there are many questions. Can Vance McDonald, Donte Moncrief and James Washington step up? I don’t think so. Ben’s going to have a down year and it’s starting week 1.

Start em’ RBs: (Note: This is based on PPR scoring)

Chris Carson vs CIN: Carson is in one of the heaviest run teams in the league. Hes looked good in the off-season and is clearly a step ahead of his backup and former first round pick, Rashaad Penny. Cincy is not in the position to put a lot of points on offense and the Seattle defense got a lot better after picking up Jadeveon Clowney. Game script falls into Carson’s favor with the Seahawks favored by 9.5 points.

Mark Ingram @ MIA: Coming over from New Orleans in the off-season, Ingram is the starter for Baltimore. In the same situation as Carson, Ingram will be in a heavy run offense. Miami gave up a lot of fantasy points to running backs last year, ranking them the 29th. If game script follows, Ingram is in line for a big game.

Other guys I like: Tevin Coleman @ TB, Sony Michel vs PIT.

Sit em’ RBs:

Derrick Henry @ CLE: For those who know me know that I do not like Henry in fantasy. Tennessee isn’t going to be good this year, Henry doesn’t catch balls and according to game script, this really effects his value. Cleveland really beefed up their defense line with the additions of Sheldon Richardson and Olivier Vernon. I’m fading Henry.

Miles Sanders vs WAS: Sanders, a stud at Penn St. is playing in his first professional game for the Eagles. The Eagles have depth, along with experience at the running back position. Howard, Sproles and Clement will be snatching up volume. I don’t expect him to do much in his first game.

Start em’ WRs: (Note: This is based on PPR scoring)

Dede Westbrook vs KC: In a game where Jacksonville is going to have to score to keep up, I love Dede. Foles is coming over from Philadelphia, where he targeted WRs in the slot 71% of the time. Dede ranked #1 in routes ran from the slot. Put two and two together. It’s important to note that they had a good connection in the off-season. I’m fitting Westbrook in all my DFS lineups.

Marvin Jones @ AZ: I already stated why I like Stafford, so Marvin falls into the category. People are sleeping on Jones. Last year, Jones was on pace for 60 catches, 863 yards, 9 TDs. That would have ranked him 23rd in PPR. His ECR is 39 this year. I like him in season long, especially week 1.

James Washington @ NE: Let’s get this straight. Moncrief will have more fantasy points then Washington by the end of the season. Yes, Washington had a great preseason, but the guy was playing in the 4th game!!! That’s telling. I’m staying away week 1 even though the total points in that game are at 51.5.

Robby Anderson vs BUF: Anderson is banged up. He has a soft tissue calf injury which is setting him back. That scares me. Buffalo has a good defense and the total points in this game is 40. That’s the lowest point total in week 1. Fade. Fade. Fade.

Start em’ TE: (Note: This is based on PPR scoring)

Hunter Henry vs IND: You’re probably starting him either way in season long, but in DFS he’s a home run. Currently priced $3,900 on DraftKings, I feel like I’m getting a steal. The Colts were terrible at defending tight ends last year. He catches a touchdown or two in week 1.

Sit em’ TE:

Jordan Reed @ PHI: If only Reed could stay healthy… He’s good, really good but just can’t stay on the field. Washington doesn’t have a lot of pass catching weapons, which makes Reed appealing. BUT I’m fading him week 1. He suffered another concussion during the preseason after a brutal hit. He’s going against Philadelphia, who were stellar against TEs last year.
